Children's Medical Center Florida Department of Health
Daytona, FL
MRI performed Architectural and Engineering design services for a new 17,000 sf two-story building facility. The facility is designed to accommodate Department of Health Children’s Medical Services and Early Intervention Program (EIP). The design includes a large two story lobby with large windows and aquatic themed stained glass, exam rooms, interview and behavioral evaluation rooms, large conference room, large class/training room, large medical record storage, nurses and dietitian work open rooms and offices, and offices and open work areas for EIP. Design goals included creating a safe environment for children, and a friendly environment and spaces that accommodated children and their special needs.
The building was strategically designed and placed on a very small and tight site with little available footprint between a new County library, an existing County medical clinic, a new County area retention pond and an existing parking lot. Although the site was constraining, the building accommodated all original program requirements and operates functionally between all adjacent and second floor spaces. The massing and character of the building was designed to create an individual identity for the Children’s Medical Services while providing a transitional relationship to the new modern library to the older existing County Medical Clinic. This project also required our involvement in Public Zoning and Conditional Use Hearings and Proceedings with Volusia County. |
